Welcome to 'SEND Searchlights,' our monthly webinar series, where each episode takes no longer than a coffee break to address your pressing identification and assessment questions. Facilitated by experienced colleagues and external experts, these informal sessions provide a forum to share knowledge and experience with colleagues from across the globe!
GL Assessment’s Emma Dibden, Polly Marsh and Debbie Baird use their prior SEND practitioner wisdom to answer questions submitted by our audience of educators. With the help of experts, they provide guidance on the best ways to assess and identify needs and provide practical advice to help you meet the needs of all learners.

Before joining GL Assessment, Emma taught for over 20 years in primary schools across the UK and overseas as a class teacher, SENDCo and Inclusion Lead. Her prior strategic roles in SEND, and experience of using GL assessments in context, helps to inform her practice as the Assessment Specialist for SEND and Wellbeing.
Polly, an Education Advisor at GL Assessment, has over 10 years of teaching experience, having worked in both state and independent primary schools. After qualifying as a teacher, she then completed the National Award for SENCo. In 2019, she became a Specialist Leader in Education for SEND and progressed to Inclusion Lead, followed by Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, where she completed her NPQSL.
Debbie is a Trainer within the practice team who has a wealth of SEND experience. Prior to joining Renaissance, her background was in Special Education. She worked in a SEMH school for fourteen years, working with children aged 5-19 who had complex social, emotional, communication and mental health difficulties across a range of cognitive abilities. She also has qualifications in supporting children with Dyslexic tendencies.
