Choosing a test type and level

Choosing a test type

NGMT is available in a digital format only. This is because it has been developed as an adaptive assessment. The student initially see questions according to their age, and as they work through new questions are automatically selected based on their perceived mathematical ability. More able students can be challenged whilst less able students are still kept engaged. This means that they student is not restricted nor tested according to their year group, but their own ability.

Testing time will be approximately 45-60 minutes. However, please note that as NGMT is adaptive, the time taken to test each student will vary; some children will finish before others and may require additional materials to occupy them whilst others complete the test. All students must reach the end of the test (i.e. click the ‘End Test’ button on-screen) for their test data to be uploaded and available within post-testing reporting.

Choosing a test level

Since the test is adaptive, you do not need to select a test level.

NGMT is suitable for the following year groups:

Choosing a Form

There are three Forms of NGMT available, Form A, Form B and Form C. This means there are 3 versions of the test with different questions, but testing the same concepts and skills. This allows for students to be assessed multiple times a year. The Forms have been designed for use across the academic year, as seen below.

Form

Term

NGMT Form A

Designed for administration during the first term of the academic year

NGMT Form B

Designed for administration during the middle of the academic year*

NGMT Form C

Designed for administration during the final term of the academic year

*Please note that, outside of CDS subscriptions, Form B will only become available for use once it has successfully been standardised in early 2025
