CAT4 Strategies for Learning

Results from CAT4 enable teachers to adapt their teaching approaches, materials, emphasis and pace in the classroom to meet the needs of individual students. Teachers can have a direct effect on each student’s learning outcomes when they gain an understanding of the interaction between student characteristics and the demands of the task or the classroom.

CAT4 results can be used to identify strengths and weaknesses in an individual student’s cognitive abilities as well as their motivation.Gaining an insight into a student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses has important implications for how best to support their learning.

Success in school depends on many personal and social factors. A student’s motivation, self-esteem, competitiveness or fear of failure are all factors that can affect their success. For example, a task that engages one student may make another student anxious.

An understanding of CAT4 results can have a direct effect on learning outcomes, helping teachers to guide each student to take ownership of their own learning.
