Choosing a test type and level

Choosing a test type

PTS is available as a paper test for levels 8-14.

It is also available as a digital test for levels 8-15. The digital tests can be taken on laptop or PC, but are not currently available on tablets.

Please note that any SEND accommodation requirements might affect our recommendation for which format of the test you take. See Testing SEND and EAL students for more details.

*As required, Level 14 can be administered Mid/End Year 9 to identify gaps in learning

Note: There is no test for end of year 7, due to the way the science curriculum is structured over KS3. Levels 13-14 are end-of-key stage assessments to be taken when KS3 science content has been covered, or to identify gaps for re-teaching towards the end of the key stage. If you are teaching over a 3-year model, do not test your students in Year 8 with Level 13 as the content may not have been covered yet in the curriculum.
