The importance of data
Effective use of data allows schools to personalise teaching and learning. Our assessments provide you with an objective, statistically reliable way of comparing ability and attainment.
The tests are standardised over huge numbers to ensure accuracy and fairness in benchmarking against peers. The data can also be used to compare achievement internally from cohort to cohort. This allows senior leaders to focus on progress and the value added by the school, rather than a one dimensional measure of attainment.
Combining this data with your own observations is considered by many to be one of the most powerful influences on learning.

How the assessments work together
The Cognitive Abilities Test: Fourth Edition (CAT4) provides a comprehensive profile of a student’s core reasoning abilities.
Combined with ability indicators, the Progress Test Series (PT Series) provides a standardised measure of attainment that enables you to measure attainment and progress year-on-year, putting you in a better position to identify individual underperformance and pinpoint areas that require intervention.
When a student's attainment doesn’t match their ability revealed by CAT4 data, the Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS) survey helps to detect possible barriers to learning, including issues around confidence, resilience, and motivation.The New Group Reading Test (NGRT) is also a vital tool to assess EAL students to determine their reading age and measure the impact of any literacy interventions.
Combination reports allow you to compare the two data sets alongside one another, making it easy to spot anomalies or areas where students could be achieving more, helping you put the necessary interventions in place to drive progress.
