Scoring and reporting

Scoring

Digital

The NGRT digital edition is scored automatically on completion of the test. Teachers and administrators can access reports through their school’s online account shortly after test completion and reports can be generated on demand. Paper

Manual Scoring Service

GL Assessment offers a manual scoring service for users of our paper-based assessments. This service facilitates the marking, management and interpretation of your data, and delivers fast and accurate results that can be tailored to your needs.

How does it work?

  1. Supply pupil data: a Pupil Data file needs to be sent to [email protected] via email. You can do this by exporting data from your school’s Management Information System and matching it against the Pupil Data File template. Delays will be avoided if the data file is submitted prior to sending the pupils’ booklets. Please password protect this file and contact the Scoring Group with your password. Due to GL Assessment’s Data Protection policy, we are unable to accept emailed data files which are not encrypted.
  2. Administer the test: you administer the test, requesting that pupils write their answers on the booklets provided.
  3. Return answers: return the booklets to our Scoring & Reporting Service division via a tracking service to: GL Assessment Scoring Department, GLDS, Unit 28 Bramble Road, Techno Trading Estate, SWINDON, Wiltshire, SN2 8HB.
  4. Scoring: once we have received both your complete data file and pupil booklets we can begin the scoring process.
Please note: the turnaround time for scoring is 15 working days after the receipt of both data file and pupil booklets. This excludes weekends and bank holidays.
  5. Uploading of data: results are uploaded into the Testwise Reporting Service (TRS) our online reporting system, and the standard reports are created as PDF and Excel files.
  6. Email notification: you are sent an email notification when your reports are ready. You can then access your reports online by entering the TRS using the secure customer login supplied.
  7. Additional reports: these can easily be requested at this stage. For some assessments this is subject to an additional cost.
  8. Invoicing: schools/clusters will be invoiced by Education after the reports are made available.

Historical data

Your data is never deleted so you can continue to request progress reports as long as you keep using the same UPN for each pupil. If you choose to switch scoring services, you can "take your data with you" as long as you continue to use the original set of UPNs, adding new ones to your pupil data file when necessary.

Your reports are kept on TRS for 6 months at which point they are archived. You can request to have these unarchived. However, we recommend that you download your reports as soon as they are made available on TRS.

Alternatively, you may wish to mark the paper test yourself. Marking instructions, marking keys and conversion charts can all be found in the Teacher’s Guide, in the relevant level sections.

Reporting

NGRT is an ideal screening and monitoring test for groups of students. NGRT scores can be brought to life through a variety of diagnostic reports, enabling teachers, SENCos and other educational professionals to build a comprehensive picture of a student and their reading ability. Reports also contain an indicator for likely future achievement.

Users will be able to access a report as soon as the data is available. Teachers and administrators can access reports through their school’s online account and reports can be generated on demand.

This includes analysis of both group and individual level, providing a clear indication of where intervention or further development might be necessary.

We also offer analysis by any required demographic: such as gender or ethnicity.

Available reports for NGRT

NGRT Group Report for Teachers

The Group Report for Teachers provides a summary of the age-standardised scores for the chosen group of students, presented both in rank order and in comparison to the national population (national percentile rank). The additional demographic analysis by gender can help to raise awareness of variance between groups within the school. The report also contains the equivalent reading age and indicative national curriculum reading level for each student.

NGRT Individual Report for Teachers

The Individual Report for Teachers shows all scores plus an analysis of responses for Sentence Completion and Passage Comprehension and a short narrative report (or Sentence Completion and Phonics in the case of students who have been administered these parts of the test.)

NGRT Progress Report

This report provides a summary of the progress made over time for the chosen group of students with either two or three points of progress. The report includes:

  • A table of scores for all students in your group, showing among other data the SAS, progress category and a reading or spelling age for each point of testing
  • Analysis of group scores compared to the national average, broken down by various categories including previously defined categories such as EAL and SEND
  • An overall progress scatter chart showing which students have made higher or lower than expected progress along with a further breakdown of progress over time, and progress for individual students between test points

Available Reports if your students have taken both NGRT and NGST

Reading and Spelling Group Report for Teachers

The Reading and Spelling Group Report for Teachers shows the scores of NGST and NGRT together and gives a summary of the age-standardised scores for the chosen group of students, presented both in rank order and compared to the national population (national percentile rank). The report includes:

CAT4 Combination Report

Using CAT4 as the ‘anchor’, a combination report can be produced that looks at data on student ability from the CAT4 assessment and then on attainment in Progress Test in Maths (PTM) and either Progress Test in English (PTE) OR New Group Reading Test (NGRT).
